One of our services partners will be performing upgrades on all their servers located in New York & Las Vegas. Supremacy IT hosts several sites & services on multiple servers with FranTech – so we’re excited about the performance boost in both hard disk speeds & CPU processing power. The FranTech team will be installing AMD Ryzen 3900X CPUs which are advertised to have clock speeds of 3.5Ghz, and boosts to 3.8Ghz. The current processors used in the servers now are Intel 1270 v3, which are susceptible to new exploits such as ‘Meltdown’, ‘Spectre’, and ‘MDS’. And in order to combat those new exploits for Intel, it decreases the performance by 30% – which is a lot.
The 2nd major upgrade by the FranTech team is the storage for the servers. Currently, the servers are outfitted with SATA SSD storage – which is fairly fast already, but they will be getting an upgrade to NVMe SSDs – which is a ~4x IO performance boost. Network connectivity for the servers will be upgraded from 1Gbit to 10Gbit – however, each server is capped at 1Gbit to prevent transit abuse. And lastly – the A+B power is to be set up in the Las Vegas datacenter to protect against unauthorized tampering.
FranTech is estimating to have the Las Vegas nodes completed by the end of next week, and New York will be completed by early April. =)
